Celtic to land five summer signings ‘from what I’m hearing’ – Keith Wyness

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Celtic could make four to five new signings this summer after winning the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the focus will go on progression in the Champions League in the new Swiss-style format.

Celtic lifted the Scottish Premiership title on Wednesday (15 May) with one game to spare after winning 5-0 away at Kilmarnock.

Sources have told Football Insider that Celtic will bank a guaranteed £35million from playing in the Champions League – with their league win qualifying them directly to the league phase.

The Hoops will play eight times from September to January in Europe with 24 of the 36 sides progressing to play a knockout game.

Celtic to make Champions League push with five summer deals, says Wyness

A good performance in Europe is important for Scottish clubs in the 2024-25 campaign, with the Scottish Premiership set to lose automatic Champions League qualification as things stand.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m expecting Celtic to be looking at four to five new signings this summer.

“I’m hearing that Brendan Rodgers will place more of a focus on getting through in the Champions League.

“They had a difficult time this year with that particular issue, with some heavy losses.

“But I think he’ll plan and try to equip themselves better on the European stage with some of the business they do.

“I hope they can do so because the Scottish coefficient needs it.”
