Celtic told to ‘cut their losses’ on Vasilis Barkas after ‘huge’ reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has told Celtic to “cut their losses” on Vasilis Barkas in the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back said Barkas’ transfer to Parkhead hasn’t worked out and he is now another number that isn’t needed.
As relayed by the Daily Record (13 February), the 28-year-old will return from his loan at FC Utrecht at the end of the season after sporting director Jordy Zuidam admitted his side will be unable to meet the “huge” fee the Hoops will demand.
The Greece international has nailed down the number one spot in the Netherlands and the club has previously said they would love to keep hold of the shot-stopper but he is too far out of budget.
The Celts already have Joe Hart, Benjamin Siegrist, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard to choose from between the sticks.
Hutton told Celtic to drop the price on the keeper and let him move in the summer.
“I think sometimes you just have to cut your losses,” he told Football Insider.
“It has not been a great investment for the club. It has not worked out but that happens.
“I think with every transfer comes risk, they probably thought they were bringing in a number one for the future. It didn’t quite work out.

“He is obviously too expensive [for Utrecht] so they have to bring their valuation down if they want to move him on.
“They have got people already within the squad so it is another number that is not needed.“
