Celtic told to finalise signing of Alexandro Bernabei after what expert has seen

Celtic will sign a replacement for Alexandro Bernabei this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie insisted the club need a left-back to rival Greg Taylor.

Bernabei joined the Celts from Argentinian side Lanus last summer for a reported £3.75million but failed to oust Taylor from the starting spot.

The 22-year-old made just 19 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions last season and was in the starting lineup for 12 of those outings.

Ange Postecoglou preferred Scotland international Taylor in his back line after he made an impressive start to the season and kept his form for the duration of their treble winning campaign.

Taylor made 43 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring three goals and offering up four assists in those outings.

McAvennie insisted the Hoops need another addition at left-back.

I think he [Rodgers] will bring someone in to push Greg because I do not think Bernabei is good enough,” he told Football Insider.

I had hopes for him but I do not think he is going to do it.

Maybe Brendan [Rodgers] will be able to get the best out of him but I just think he is a bit small to get the best out of.

He did alright in a few games last season because at one point he was all over the place.

Following Postecoglou’s departure for Tottenham, Rodgers has taken charge at Parkhead once again.

The Northern Irishman has already overseen two signings come through the door: midfielder Odin Thiago Holm and winger Marco Tilio.
