Celtic told to match Rangers in new takeover verdict – Keith Wyness
Celtic will beat out Rangers for the Scottish Premiership title this season but the Ibrox club are set for a US-backed takeover which could transform their fortunes.
The Gers are expected to forge a strong partnership with English giants Leeds United after their 49ers Enterprises takeover goes through.
Celtic’s finances are much healthier than that of their Old Firm rivals, with the Parkhead club holding £65.4million in cash reserves after the first half of the 2024-25 campaign.
Both clubs will enter the Champions League qualifiers next season with the chance to progress to the money-spinning league phase.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has tabled a suggestion as Celtic look to head off a potential challenge from Rangers.

Celtic should invest in multi-club network, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Celtic should be investing their cash in establishing a multi-club network.
Football Insider revealed last week (3 April) that Brendan Rodgers wants “huge” transfer backing this summer with his long-term future uncertain.
| Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
| 1 | Celtic | 33 | 81 | 75 |
| 2 | Rangers | 33 | 66 | 33 |
However, Wyness claimed investment in a multi-club network will provide better potential for long-term growth at Celtic.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I actually believe the way they should be investing the money is into a multi-club situation.
“That’s where I believe there is a better growth potential for bringing through young potential.
“Celtic could benefit providing they do the right work and identify the right clubs.
“I think that’s where the brand could really work for them.
“It would have a longer-term effect on talent coming through than blowing £50million this summer.
“Brendan Rodgers will want to be aggressive in the market, but maybe the board could convince him that a multi-club model could be in his best interests as well.
“It could be a project he warms to.”

Celtic and Rangers race to sign English sensation
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (15 April) that Celtic and Rangers have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace’s England youth international Jesse Derry.
Clubs across Europe have also contacted the Palace starlet, 17, after being alerted that he had rejected the offer of a professional contract at Selhurst Park.
