Celtic told to reignite Hickey hunt on one condition amid £4m-plus update - pundit
Celtic must only reignite interest in Aaron Hickey if he is going to be a “star man” next season, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Bhoys may have to consider other options after missing out on the left-back last summer.
As reported by the Scottish Sun, Celtic are eyeing up a move for the Scottish 18-year-old, who is said to be valued at £4million-plus by Bologna.
Hickey joined the Italian outfit for a reported £1.5million fee from Hearts last summer.
As revealed by Football Insider last summer, Celtic were in talks to sign the teenage full-back before he moved to Italy.
Whelan has admitted the Hoops should only reignite their interest if they truly believe he is going to be a standout performer.

Asked if Celtic were right to keep chasing Hickey, Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “Well look, if he’s not the right man and it’s not working out, you’ve got to move on.
“There should never be just one option, there should always be a couple. But if he is the star man, you’ve got to go all out and make sure that you get him. That is the point.
“You’ve got to have something to offer him. Now Champions League Football would be a temptation for anybody. Celtic would be a temptation for anybody but it’s about getting everything right.
“They’ve still got a lot to do.”
Hickey has played 11 times for Bologna but saw his season cut short by a shoulder injury in April.
He played 25 times in the Scottish Premiership before moving to Italy.
