Celtic told to sell defender after ‘furious’ Brendan Rodgers reveal – pundit
Celtic must sell one of their senior centre-backs this summer and bring in a top replacement.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed the Hoops “need” a new centre-half, but the club would have to let one go beforehand.
Brendan Rodgers’ defence has been under fire this season – most recently in the Old Firm on Sunday (7 April) where they shipped three goals in the second half.
Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider (9 April) that Rodgers is set to demand full backing from the board in the summer transfer window after he was left “furious” with the business since his return to the club.
Celtic ‘need’ new centre-back this summer – Hutton
Hutton admitted that finding a long-term Joe Hart replacement should be the club’s transfer priority, but suggested improvements to the backline will be beneficial heading into next season.
“They’ve had injuries in defence and Cameron Carter-Vickers, when he’s fit, is the nailed-on number-one,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s about who plays next to him.
“I think Liam Scales has had a really good season.
“Going into such a difficult time where you have to win every game and have a different mentality – I think Scales will get better.
“Do they need somebody else in? Yes.
“But if they do that, they’d need to let one go.

“Celtic have a number of centre-backs there.
“However, goalkeeper is the number-one spot they need to recruit at with Joe Hart leaving – they need to get it right.”
