Celtic told to U-turn on Edouard Michut after £5m report – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has claimed Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Edouard Michut is not the kind of player Celtic should sign.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Hoops striker suggested the Scottish champions have enough options in their midfield without making a move for the 19-year-old.

The Independent reported (16 July) that PSG have set the price of Celtic target Michut at around £5million with a 25% sell-on clause.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were said to be willing to pay around £2million for the midfielder.

The French youth international has three years left on his contract with the Ligue 1 club.

When asked if Celtic would sell anyone to facilitate the signing of Michut, McAvennie told Football Insider:” Who’s going to leave?

[Matt] O’Riley isn’t leaving, [David} Turnbull won’t go, Jota’s just signed, Callum McGregor’s not going anywhere. [James] Forrest just signed a new contract. So I don’t know who’s going to leave.

I wouldn’t think that would be what we need. I know this manager loves going forward but sometimes you just need to give the other side a bit more credit and do a bit of defensive work.

I think that’s what we need in midfield, not more flair players because we’ve got those in abundance. Celtic have loads of players going forward, bringing in another one isn’t a good idea, I don’t think we need him.

I think we’ve got more than enough going forward from midfield.

In other news, a pundit has suggested Celtic will only wait a few more weeks for their ‘top choice’ Vinicius Souza after an update from a journalist.
