Celtic ‘top target’ revealed after multiple bids submitted

Celtic view Go Ahead Eagles star Jakob Breum as their top target heading into the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 21-year-old’s potential move to Parkhead after multiple bids have been rejected.

Brendan Rodgers has been determined to sign a new winger throughout the summer transfer window and is continuing to push for this deal to be done.

However, Football Insider revealed on 9 August that Celtic could miss out on Breum as Go Ahead Eagles are reluctant to sell following Oliver Antman’s move to Rangers.

As a result, they have been forced to consider potential alternatives in his position, with Royal Antwerp star Michel-Ange Balikwisha high on their list.

Football Insider revealed on 15 August that Balikwisha wants to join Celtic after a move to Parkhead was all but done before he picked up an injury last summer.

Celtic push to sign Jakob Breum after Champions League twist

Football Insider revealed on 8 August that Celtic have seen three offers rejected for Breum but remain confident they can eventually reach an agreement.

Their qualification for the Champions League could prove crucial to their pursuit of the winger with the additional funds to bring them closer to his £5million valuation.

O’Rourke explained that while alternatives are being assessed in case they are unable to match his asking price, Breum remains the leading target for Celtic.

Celtic are pursuing a deal for Jakob Breum from Go Ahead Eagles,” he told Football Insider.

“He has been the top target for them this summer and they’ve had several bids turned down for him.

“So if they can’t agree a deal for him, they could return for Balikwisha.

“Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in a winger, it’s been a key position for him this summer, so he’ll be hopeful they can get a deal over the line.”

Andy Irving to quit West Ham as deal could be done ‘next week’

Alongside their pursuit of a new winger, Rodgers also wants to add a central midfielder to his squad ahead of their participation in the Champions League.

Football Insider revealed on 17 August that Celtic want to sign West Ham’s Andy Irving, who could leave the London Stadium in search of increased playing time.

The one-cap Scotland international is keen to play more regular minutes and is expected to jump at the opportunity to play European football this season.

This comes after former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Irving could join Celtic “next week” as they push to agree terms.
