Celtic’s bid to sign defender Rivaldo Coetzee from Ajax Cape Town is in serious jeopardy, according to a report.
South African publication Soccer Laduma has claimed that the “deal could fall apart” because a medical has shown a problem with a bone in his foot not fusing properly.
Manager Brendan Rodgers admitted yesterday (Friday) that Celtic were on the verge of signing Coetzee, 20, subject to the player securing a visa and completing a medical.
It has been widely reported that the fee for the centre-back will be around £800,000.
But Rodgers could now be forced to look elsewhere for another centre-back as he tries to beef up his squad.
Soccer Laduma broke the news earlier in the month that the Scottish outfit were in hot pursuit of the South Africa international.
Injuries have forced Rodgers to play right-back Mikael Lustig and midfielder Nir Bitton as his central defence pairing in Saturday’s Premiership clash against St Johnstone.
Coetzee has been capped 22 times by his country after becoming South Africa’s youngest ever international at 17.
In other Celtic transfer news, a mega-rich Champions League club have launched a £10million bid to sign a 23-year-old at Parkhead.
