Celtic transfer news: Hoops have to make Andy Robertson transfer priority as Liverpool exit is confirmed

Celtic have the perfect chance to sign Andy Robertson in the summer after his exit from Liverpool was confirmed.

The Scotland captain is set to leave Anfield upon the expiry of his contract in the summer after taking part in a golden era at the Reds.

At Liverpool, the left-back has won two Premier League titles and a Champions League, as well as numerous other trophies, since joining the club in 2017.

While his importance at the Reds has declined this season, he is still clearly a top player.

Now, Celtic’s top summer target must be Robertson as they look to become the dominant force in Scotland once again.

Andy Robertson would be a star at Celtic

While Robertson is nowhere near the player he once was, he is still full of quality.

So far this campaign, he has played 19 matches in the Premier League as he looks to guide Liverpool to the Champions League.

For Scotland, he has also impressed and was key to the nation’s qualification to the 2026 World Cup.

Now, with the defender available for free, Celtic have to make him their top target.

Not only could his quality help end the Hoops’ leaky backline, but his experience could see Robertson inspire many of the club’s upcoming stars.

Many times this season, when the Old Firm side have been down, it has been clear that they are lacking a leader, and the full-back could easily fill this role.

Would Robertson join Celtic?

In March, Football Insider exclusively confirmed that Robertson has doubts about joining Celtic.

The left-back has a number of admirers from across Europe, including the likes of Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, and is keen to continue playing at the top level.

While this does not mean that a transfer is impossible, it does present a challenge for Celtic to convince the defender that a move is the right one.

As a result, Champions League football could prove to be key, as competing in Europe’s top competition could be more inviting than a move to Spurs.

However, it remains to be seen if this would be enough to bring Robertson to Celtic as the summer transfer window edges closer.
