Celtic transfer news: Keith Wyness suggests first summer signing
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Celtic must make a new number-one goalkeeper their first summer signing.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted it will take time for a new shot-stopper to build a relationship with the Hoops defence.
Joe Hart, who has been a virtual ever-present at Celtic since joining for free in 2022, is set to retire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Football Insider revealed on 1 May that the Glasgow giants are looking to sign a modern goalkeeper capable of playing out from the back in the upcoming summer window.
It is believed Brendan Rodgers’ side want a long-term keeper capable of committing to the club for a long contract – rather than another ageing, short-term fix.
Celtic told to sign ‘experienced’ goalkeeper in first act of the summer window
However, Wyness claimed an “experienced” shot-stopper could be valuable for Celtic – especially in their upcoming Champions League campaign.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think they’ve got to get the goalkeeper situation sorted first.
“It takes time to build a relationship with the defence.
“Joe Hart has served them well. There will be a few other experienced goalkeepers around this summer who are available.

“I think the experience will be crucial for those European nights.
“Bringing in the right number-one goalkeeper will be a key factor for next season.”
