Celtic transfers: O’Rourke updates on January signing spree
Celtic are unlikely to spend heavily in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed he’d be “very surprised” if the Scottish giants splash the cash in the upcoming transfer market.
The situation has become a point of frustration for fans in the past, but bringing in any money from competition successes is seen as a huge lift as it allows the club to try and keep hold of their best players.
Celtic would gain a financial boost if they qualify for the latter stages of the Champions League and reach the playoffs, with the club currently 15th in the table.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Brendan Rodgers “would love to strengthen the squad,” but it remains to be seen if he will gain the finances to do that.
Celtic board don’t see the need to splash the cash
Celtic currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership and are performing well in the Champions League, while they have also reached the Scottish League Cup final.
The board are not looking to splash the cash in January because they don’t see a real need to do so at the current time.
The feeling among Celtic’s hierarchy is that the squad is strong enough as it is right now to compete on all fronts for silverware, therefore Rodgers will need to get the best out of the current crop.

Celtic are believed to have a financial advantage over their Scottish rivals as they continue to pursue the 18-year-old.
