Celtic urged to complete goalkeeper signing after what expert has just seen
Celtic need to sign a new keeper before the window closes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie said Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist are not cut out to challenge Joe Hart for the number one spot.
Despite missing out on game time in the final pre-season test against Athletic Bilbao last week, Hart was back between the sticks for Celtic’s opening win against Ross County.
Despite looking shaky in the opening minutes, the Celts managed a 4-2 victory in their first Premiership match of the season.
Hart, 36, has been the go to keeper for the Hoops since his arrival back in 2021 and has hardly been troubled by Siegrist after he joined last summer.
Siegrist made just two appearances last season following his arrival from Dundee United and missed the majority of the second half of the season with a calf injury.
When asked if Rodgers needs to address the goalkeeper position before the window shuts, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think Joe will still want to be number one.
“Siegrist never got in, he had some chances last season but then he got injured so he has not really covered himself in glory.
“You have to keep yourself fit so that when the number one is having a drought, that is when you come in and do well.
“Bain is not going to be anywhere near it. He has had loads of chances but he is not for me.

“If Brendan doesn’t think Hart is the man then get somebody else. Siegrist seems to be injured quite a bit, you can’t have that as a goalkeeper.
“The window is not closed and I think Brendan is assessing the team but keeping things to himself.“
