Celtic victims of ‘really harsh’ decision as Daizen Maeda footage emerges – pundit

Alan Hutton ‘feels for’ Daizen Maeda after his Celtic goal was disallowed for offside.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back said although the decision seems “really harsh” it is the rules of the game.

As shown on Viaplay Sports (14 January), Maeda’s second goal against Kilmarnock was ruled out after Kyogo Furuhashi’s heel was adjudged to be in an offside position in the buildup.

Maeda thought he had put the Hoops 2-0 up in the League Cup semi-final against Kilmarnock on Saturday (14 January) but after a VAR check the goal was disallowed.

The Celts did go on to win the game 2-0 thanks to a late stoppage time goal from Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will face Rangers in the final on 26 February.

When asked if the offside decision was harsh on Celtic, Hutton told Football Insider:I feel for them.

VAR is in there and it seems to work well for the offisides. When it is a heel or a toe or whatever, it seems really harsh.

Celtic

I think when it all boils down to it you have to ask whether he was offside or not. In the buildup he is in an offside position, affecting play, even though it is such a small margin but he is offside.

Yes I feel for them but it is offside and so that is how it has to be called.

In other news, Celtic have been backed to accept Daizen Maeda offer after latest – ‘he’s away,’ says expert.
