Celtic well placed to agree ‘big’ Josh Brownhill deal

Celtic have been backed to sign Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill who is running out of contract at Turf Moor in the summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson admitted he believes the draw of Champions League football could be a “bit of a pull in the right direction” for the Hoops.

The 29-year-old has been at Burnley since 2020 and has been a regular feature ever since, having made 193 appearances since then.

The club captain has impressed this season with his performances, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in 25 games which has caught the eye of Celtic.

Champions League football could draw Josh Brownhill to Celtic

No disrespect to the Championship, I think he can go on and do bigger and better than the Championship,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“[His] contract [is] coming to an end now and is able to talk to clubs now sign a pre-contract if he wants.

“He’s in a really good position for a player of his age and he’s in a good position because he’s playing every week is playing well every week.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers smiling

“Celtic could be a great option for him, [the] offer of Champions League football again next year.

“Obviously Champions League football for Josh Brownhill next year, it could be a little bit of a pull in the right direction, especially if Brendan Rodgers is still in charge.”
