Celtic Women fans thrilled after shock announcement sees ‘upgrade’ arrive at New Douglas Park
Celtic Women have announced the departure of Elena Sadiku, with Grant Scott set to take over the side.
With Celtic’s men side are in disastrous shape in the Scottish Premiership, many fans will have hoped to see Wilfried Nancy sacked at Celtic Park.
Yet, the women’s team are not doing much better. As it stands, they sit fourth in the SWPL1, seven points off table toppers Glasgow City.
However, it no doubt came as a shock when Celtic announced on 22 December that Sadiku had left the club. The German coach had been in charge since 2024 and led them to their first SWPL1 title in the 2023-24 campaign.
Yet, it has been confirmed that she has departed Celtic to pursue other opportunities, with former Hibernian Women’s manager Scott taking over.
💚 Thank you, @elenasadiku

Grant Scott replaces Elena Sadiku as Celtic Women’s manager
While Celtic’s board has been widely criticised this season, this recent appointment will be seen as a coup.
Scott has been widely successful in Scottish Women’s football.
The manager has overseen multiple title-winning campaigns in the top-flight, including Hibernian’s shock SWPL1 victory last season.
While his title defence had not gone to plan this season, with Hibs fifth, 13 points off top, he is still seen as one of the best coaches in the division.
Now, he will prepare for his first game, which comes against his former club Hibernian in the Scottish Cup on 11 January.
Taking to X on 22 December, many fans were thrilled with the news, seeing the appointment as an “upgrade”.
Great appointment – definitely an upgrade.

However, many fans were equally saddened to see their former title-winning manager leave the club, with many blaming the lack of investment from the board as her downfall.
Tremendous coach stuck with a club cutting budgets and starving the woman’s team.

What has Grant said about taking charge at Celtic Women?
Grant is obviously thrilled to be appointed the new women’s manager at the Hoops.
After overseeing some of the most successful sides in Hibs’ history, he will now be looking to repeat this trick at New Douglas Park.
Upon being appointed at Celtic, Grant was quick to state how thankful he was to have been given this opportunity.
He said: “It is a huge honour to join Celtic and I look forward to carrying on the great work at the club, to push on and bring even more success to Celtic.
“I’m excited to join at a time when the new Barrowfield Training Centre is giving our women’s team every opportunity to develop, providing the players and those coming through the Academy with the best possible environment to train and come to work each day.
“I have experience of bringing success to clubs and, ultimately, this is what we will all strive for again, to ensure that Celtic can be at the very top of the women’s game.”
