Celtic’s number one January signing priority revealed

Celtic are working to bring in a new centre-forward in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Wilfried Nancy is expected to be appointed by the Glasgow giants in the coming days, coming in from MLS side Columbus Crew as Brendan Rodgers’ permanent replacement.

Martin O’Neill has been in temporary charge of the Hoops since Rodgers’ departure, and they currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership, seven points adrift of Hearts with a game in hand.

However, Celtic are lacking firepower up front and sources say that they will look to address their striking problems when the window reopens.

Celtic have big issues at centre forward

Kelechi Iheanacho made the move to Celtic as a free agent back in September, but the former Leicester City striker is currently out injured.

It means that the Glasgow giants are still searching for someone to fill the void left by Kyogo Furuhashi, who departed for Rennes last January.

Johnny Kenny has started up front for the majority of games under O’Neill and has been scoring goals.

However, Celtic feel that they need another proven goalscorer in the squad in order to challenge Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Wilfried Nancy to raid MLS after Celtic appointment

Meanwhile, Nancy is likely to utilise the MLS market if he takes over at Celtic, sources have told Football Insider.

Ahead of Nancy’s expected appointment at Parkhead, Columbus Crew forward Diego Rossi has been linked with Celtic.

Rossi scored 16 goals and picked up five assists in the MLS last season and has previously hinted at a desire to return to Europe.

The 27-year-old spent two seasons with Turkish side Fenerbahce between 2021 and 2023.
