Celtic’s two top earners dwarfed by incoming Kieran Tierney’s deal
Kieran Tiernery’s Celtic wages are set to dwarf the current two top earners at the club when he arrives in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 27-year-old will be the “highest earner” at the Scottish giants when he returns to the club.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and Callum McGregor are the two top earners in the Celtic squad at the moment as they’re proven players who bring lots of experience.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Tierney’s wages are not expected to be an issue within the Celtic squad, and it is being viewed as “worth it” due to his experience and quality.
Brendan Rodgers is looking to improve his Celtic squad as much as possible in the upcoming summer transfer window to help them kick on in Europe moving forward.
The Celtic manager is aware that if the club are going to continue progressing they might have to spend big on wages in a bid to try and attract players to make the move to Scotland in the first place.
Tierney is set to return to his boyhood club when this season ends, wrapping up his spell at Arsenal to move north of the border.
Celtic are careful with their finances
The Scotland international might be set to earn big wages at the club, but he isn’t going to get “anywhere near” the over £100,000-per-week deal he is currently on at the Gunners.
That’s because Celtic have a strict wage structure and don’t typically hand out massive wages that players might be on at other clubs.
Tierney is set to take a “substantial pay cut” to return to his boyhood club, but he is still going to be on a significant fee and will be getting a signing-on fee upon his return.

Kieran Tierney will bolster Brendan Rodgers’ defensive options
The 27-year-old has fallen out of the Arsenal team in recent seasons, having spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad and this campaign as a squad player.
Tierney has only made five appearances in all competitions under Mikel Arteta this season, but his experience is being viewed as a positive at Celtic.
The full-back has played 93 times in the Premier League and also made 97 appearances in the Scottish top flight during his initial spell at Celtic.
