Cesc Fabregas a top contender to be appointed London club manager after sack latest

Cesc Fabregas is one of the top contenders to be Crystal Palace’s next manager, according to the latest odds from a leading UK bookmaker.

Glasner became the most successful manager in Crystal Palace’s history last year, but felt aggrieved at how he was not fully backed in the transfer window following last season’s FA Cup triumph.

Those disagreements have led to uncertainty around his future, and all the signs have pointed to him making an amicable exit at the end of this campaign when his contract comes to an end.

Glasner announced this month that he will leave Palace at the end of the season, with links to the likes of Man United and Tottenham arising following his shock reveal.

Palace have been backed to sack Glasner ahead of his summer departure amid their current poor run of form, and Fabregas could soon be the man to take over as he returns to the Premier League.

Fabregas now 10/1 to be Palace’s next permanent manager after Glasner

Fabregas’ glittering playing career that saw him represent both Arsenal and Chelsea came to an end at Italian club Como in 2023, as he instantly became the boss of both their under-19 and B sides.

He was appointed as the interim manager of their first-team in November 2023, and he led them to promotion to Serie A at the end of that season alongside Osian Roberts, who was their official boss due to Fabregas not having the right qualifications.

Como have since established themselves in the Italian top-flight with the Spaniard as their full-time manager, finishing tenth last season for their best league finish since 1987.

Como have kicked on even further this term to sit sixth in Serie A as it stands, with Champions League qualification a real possibility under Fabregas.

The 38-year-old’s hugely impressive start to life in the dugout has seen him linked to numerous jobs, and he could soon return to London to take over at Palace.

According to one of the UK’s top bookies, Fabregas is the joint fifth-favourite to be the next Eagles boss, at odds of 10/1.

Who else is in the running for the Palace job after Glasner?

Former Bayer Leverkusen boss Roger Schmidt was installed as the favourite to be Palace’s next manager last week, but the same bookmaker now has him as the third-favourite at odds of 7/1.

Getafe’s Jose Bordalas was linked to Palace before Glasner’s announcement, and he is the current favourite to succeed him at 3/1 odds.

Former England chief Gareth Southgate is behind him at 5/1, with Rayo Vallecano manager Inigo Perez also priced close to him at odds of 9/2.

Also priced at similar odds to Fabregas are Kieran McKenna, Frank Lampard, Marco Silva and Roberto Martinez, who all come in at 10/1.
