Championship postponement update: Ipswich Town vs Wrexham threatened, Coventry latest as Storm Claudia wreaks havoc

Ipswich Town are at risk of seeing their clash with Wrexham postponed on Saturday afternoon.

Kieran McKenna’s side are set to go head-to-head with their visitors from North Wales as they bid to secure a victory that could lift them into the play-off positions.

Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League last season, and McKenna is once again being touted for jobs elsewhere, making their upcoming run of games potentially vital for their future.

This weekend’s clash with Wrexham at Portman Road could be heavily affected by Storm Claudia, and it isn’t the only Championship game that is at risk of postponement this weekend.

Ipswich falls under the Met Office yellow weather warning

Wrexham targeted a shock move for Christian Eriksen in the summer, as their aspirations of reaching the Premier League were outlined once again.

The Red Dragons have seen their form pick up after a slow start on their return to the second tier, but it could be the weather that defeats them in Suffolk this weekend.

Storm Claudia has been wreaking havoc across the UK already this week, and that has prompted the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning across large parts of the East Coast on Thursday (20 November).

Ipswich falls within the affected area, with snow and ice likely to cause disruption in the coming days.

Saturday’s game could easily be at risk of postponement if those conditions are ultimately prolonged into the weekend, and that is a scenario that neither McKenna, nor his opposite number Phil Parkinson will want.

Coventry City vs West Brom could also be at risk of postponement

Coventry City are currently sitting top of the Championship, and they will be hoping to extend their five-point gap to second-placed Middlesbrough when they take on West Brom on Saturday.

That clash kicks off at 12.30 at the CBS Arena, but that is another second-tier meeting that could face a potential postponement.

Coventry is in close proximity to some of the areas that fall under the current weather warning, and if that is extended further in the coming days, then adverse conditions could follow.

Frank Lampard’s men will be targeting another three points against a stuttering Baggies side, and they will undoubtedly be desperate for the game to go ahead.
