Championship sack race: Mark Robins odds slashed after Stoke City latest, Eric Ramsay still frontrunner

Stoke City boss Mark Robins is now the third-favourite to be the next manager to lose his job in the Championship behind Eric Ramsay and Henrik Pedersen.

Robins has been in charge of the Potters since January 2025, when he was tasked with keeping them in the Championship last season and succeeded with an eventual 18th-placed finish.

Stoke are yet to finish in the top half of the second tier since being relegated from the Premier League in 2018, but they looked set to end that dismal record after a strong start to this season.

They were sat among the top six for the first few months of the campaign, but a run of four wins in their last 15 league games has seen them fall to mid-table.

Robins’ side are rapidly losing ground on the playoff places ahead of the business end of the campaign, and their latest defeat has heightened talk around a potential upcoming departure.

Mark Robins is now the third-favourite among Championship bosses to be sacked next

Stoke headed to 18th-placed Charlton Athletic on Wednesday night in desperate need of a win after a run of five games without maximum points.

They could only muster up two shots on target at The Valley, however, and were beaten 1-0 by a late Tyreece Campbell strike.

Robins side’ are now 14th in the Championship, and his odds to be sacked next have been slashed from 12/1 before the game, to 7/1 after it, by one of the UK’s leading bookmakers.

He is now the third-favourite to be dismissed next among second-tier bosses, with West Brom‘s Ramsay still the leading contender at odds of 2/1 and Sheffield Wednesday manager Pedersen close behind at 3/1.

What have Stoke fans said about Robins being sacked?

The mood at the bet365 Stadium is undoubtedly deflated at this moment in time, but it would be a surprise to see Robins relieved of his duties anytime soon after a run of serious injuries to key players.

He had the Potters in the automatic promotion places in November following a great start to the season, and is surely set to be given more time to turn their form around after signing a new contract that same month.

The majority of Stoke fans online are behind the 56-year-old, with one taking to X on Wednesday to say: “A massive fall off, needs addressing asap, can’t keep making excuses but sacking and turning on Robins (definitely) isn’t the answer.”

Another posted to ask: “Why do our fans treat Robins as some sort of hero who’s immune to criticism?“, so some Potters supporters do clearly feel as if more questions need to be asked of the manager after their poor recent form.
