Championship sack race: New favourite to be dismissed next as unwanted record set
Ryan Mason has once again soared to the front of the Championship sack race after yet another dismal performance.
West Brom beat QPR 2-1 at the end of December, prompting some hopes of an unexpected turnaround at The Hawthorns.
But Thursday’s defeat to Swansea City has put an end to any of those ideas, with the Baggies once again under pressure to take action in the dugout.
Football Insider revealed last month that West Brom are willing to keep Mason in charge until they are dragged into a relegation battle.
But pressure is rising, with Michael Carrick among the available managers under consideration at West Brom.

Ryan Mason leads sack race after terrible record set
West Brom will travel to take on Leicester City on Monday, with Mason attempting to avert a horrific away record.
The Baggies have won just three of 13 away games played in the Championship this season, with their last win on the road coming in October.
| West Brom – next five | Date |
| Leicester City (A) | 5 Jan |
| Swansea City (A) (FA Cup) | 11 Jan |
| Middlesbrough (H) | 16 Jan |
| Norwich City (H) | 20 Jan |
| Derby County (A) | 23 Jan |
That day saw Mason’s side beat Norwich City 1-0, courtesy of Josh Maja’s early winner, but there has not been a single away win since.
Thursday’s defeat to Swansea made it nine consecutive away losses in the league – a type of run not seen at West Brom since 1973.
And it may get even worse for Mason. Should his side lose on Monday, their run of 10 consecutive league defeats will be the worst away run at the club for 99 years.

Given the situation the Baggies find themselves in, Mason has once again propelled to the front of the Championship sack race at 6/4, leading Marti Cifuentes at Leicester (5/2) and Henrik Pedersen at Sheffield Wednesday (5/1) according to one major bookmaker.
Chris Davies beats odds after massive victory
Chris Davies was the outright favourite for the sack at Birmingham City, with his side having failed to win in seven consecutive Championship matches.
But an unbelievable affair at St Andrew’s saw Marvin Ducksch and Lewis Koumas score to sink league leaders Coventry City 3-2.
Frank Lampard‘s side came from behind twice but were unable to respond a third time when Ducksch found his second goal.
In light of the win, Davies’ odds of receiving the sack have drifted to 13/2, with other managers now eyed for the boot ahead of him.
