Sources: Charlton Athletic agree £200,000 Lavelle deal as he heads in for medical

Charlton Athletic have agreed a deal to sign Morecambe defender Sam Lavelle, Football Insider understands.

The League One club are aiming to beat the transfer deadline to tie up a deal for the centre-back as Nigel Adkins looks to bolster his squad.

A Charlton source has told Football Insider that Lavelle, 24, has been given the green light to travel to London for talks and a medical in a deal worth over £200,000.

The Morecambe skipper, who has a year remaining on his current deal, reportedly rejected a new contract earlier this month.

He is set to become Charlton’s tenth signing of a frenzied recruitment campaign this summer.

Morecambe meanwhile are set to lose a player who has started all seven of their fixtures this season.

The centre-back has been a regular for the Shrimps since his first-team breakthrough in 2017.

Lavelle is the son of former Morecambe favourite Ben Lavelle, who played for the club across several spells during their time in non-league.

The 24-year-old captained the side when they won promotion via the play-offs to League One for the first time in their history last season.

Morecambe currently occupy 14th place in that division, with Lavelle’s suitors Charlton Athletic five places below them in 19th.

The Addicks are in the market for a new centre-half following the departure of Deji Oshilaja to Burton Albion this summer.

New boss Adkins is also without Akin Famewo, who returned to parent club Norwich after spending 2020-21 on loan at The Valley.
