‘Chelsea recommend Championship star for transfer abroad’

Chelsea have just two Premier League games left to play and will soon focus on the summer transfer window.

Enzo Maresca’s men currently occupy fifth spot in the top flight, despite losing to Newcastle on 11 May, and are eager to book their spot in next season’s Champions League.

The Stamford Bridge club also have their sights set on Conference League glory and are set to face Real Betis in the final on 28 May.

Meanwhile, Djordje Petrovic could be set for the Chelsea exit door, whereas Andrey Santos could make his Blues debut in this summer’s Club World Cup.

Chelsea recommend CJ Egan-Riley to Strasbourg

Burnley defender CJ Egan-Riley played a key role in a Clarets backline that conceded just 16 Championship goals as Scott Parker’s men sealed promotion back to the Premier League.

According to talkSPORT [14 May], Egan-Riley has turned down a contract offer from Burnley and is now set to leave the Lancashire club on a free transfer.

The report adds that French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg have offered the 22-year-old a five-year deal, and Chelsea are thought to have recommended his services to Liam Rosenior’s side.

Like the Stamford Bridge side, Strasbourg are owned by the BlueCo group.

Egan-Riley exit will come as a blow to Burnley’s Premier League survival chances

Egan-Riley has enjoyed a fantastic season in the Championship, helping ensure the Clarets have boasted an incredibly resolute defence.

The former Manchester City youngster has proven he is ready for the challenge of top-flight football, something he is now set to enjoy in France with Strasbourg.

Rosenior will likely enjoy his fellow Englishman’s services next season as the French club look to continue the positive momentum they have established in Ligue 1.

But Burnley will miss Egan-Riley’s qualities next season, as the 22-year-old has played a key role for Parker’s men throughout the Championship campaign.

The gap between the Premier League and the second tier has widened recently, and the Clarets were already set for an uphill battle to obtain top-flight survival.

But the difficulty of Burnley’s task next season has now been exacerbated by the fact that they will not boast the quality defender Egan-Riley among their ranks in the Premier League.
