‘Chelsea could agree cut-price Alejandro Garnacho deal’ – Stefan Borson
Chelsea could agree a cut-price £50million deal for Alejandro Garnacho following Manchester United’s profit and sustainability (PSR) issues.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the London giants are trying to squeeze Man United at the end of the transfer window to sign the Argentina international.
The Times reported on 24 January Garnacho will be able to leave United this month if they receive a £60million offer following interest from Chelsea and Napoli.
The 20-year-old, who has registered eight goals and five assists in 33 appearances this season, has struggled for consistent minutes under Ruben Amorim recently.
In a letter to fan groups on 23 January, the Manchester giants warned them the club are at risk of breaching the spending rules.
United’s latest accounts for 2023-24 revealed they generated a club-record revenue of £661.8million despite recording a net loss of £113.2million, with top-flight sides only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.
Chelsea are squeezing Man United for late Alejandro Garnacho deal
Borson suggested selling Garnacho could be the solution to resolving the PSR issues at Old Trafford.
He told Football Insider: “In the absence of the other options you have got to try and make up on PSR, maybe Garnacho is a sacrifice they are prepared to make if they can get let’s say £60million out of Chelsea for him.
“I would think it’s really unlikely that it can be done by Napoli.
“I think it’s much more likely that Chelsea are trying to squeeze United at the end of the window, especially if someone like Casemiro doesn’t go to Saudi, which doesn’t look likely at the moment.
“I don’t know, there has been a lot of rumour.

“But if that deal doesn’t happen, maybe Chelsea think they can squeeze United for £10million and get Garnacho for £50million.
“United take it because it does sort out their PSR issue and Chelsea get the player they want.
“Amorim isn’t overly bothered it seems about Garnacho, so maybe that’s the solution.”
