Chelsea could be about to break their promise as Enzo Maresca sack talk continues
Chelsea’s calamitous loss at the hands of Brighton may cause the club’s leadership to U-turn on a promise made before the season began.
The Blues were expected to be a dark horse in the Premier League title race this season, in part because of their victory in the Club World Cup this summer.
However, six games into the 2025-26 season, the wheels are already beginning to come off, and Chelsea’s 3-1 loss against Brighton highlighted several issues in Enzo Maresca‘s decision-making.
Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively that Chelsea’s hierarchy will be scrutinising Maresca in the coming days and weeks, and they may walk back on a promise made to new signings in the summer.

Chelsea promised new signings Enzo Maresca wouldn’t be sacked mid-season
The Italian coach joined the Blues at the beginning of last season, following a spell in charge of Leicester City.
And whilst the 2024-25 campaign saw the club claim both the Conference League and CWC trophies, last season was not without it’s testing moments.
Maresca criticised Chelsea fans for booing their own players in the wake of a 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town in April, and the relationship between manager and supporters has been an uneasy alliance since then.

But the Blues stuck with their manager and performed a huge overhaul of his squad this summer, spending significant sums on the likes of Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens.
According to The Telegraph, it is believed that new signings were told that “they could be confident” Maresca would be in charge “for at least the entire season” and that there would not be a managerial change midway through the 2025-26 campaign.
Chelsea players may welcome a change, even if it means broken promises
Maresca has taken a hard-line approach since arriving at Chelsea, and that has not always sat well with his playing staff.
Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling have been cast aside by the Italian and forced to train away from the first team this season, following their returns from loans away from the club.
What’s more, Indy Kaila reported on X that Cole Palmer is not happy with his tactical role at Chelsea.
The transfer expert also revealed that certain players find the Italian boss “arrogant”.
Whilst leadership may have promised that there would be no managerial changes this season, breaking that promise may have the unintended effect of actually boosting morale in the Blues’ dressing room.
