‘Chelsea could now sell Moises Caicedo at £35m loss’ after new twist

Moises Caicedo has proved a success at Chelsea despite early concerns over his lofty price tag – and could be key for the Blues as they chase Champions League football.

But in a new twist, The Telegraph reported last week (16 April) that Caicedo is a “dream target” for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr this summer as they look to strengthen their midfield options.

Chelsea may have to sell players to balance the books this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Caicedo, 23, is the Blues’ most expensive signing, having joined from Brighton for a British-record fee of £115million in August 2023.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed the figure they could accept in the upcoming summer window.

Chelsea could accept ‘£80m’ Caicedo offer

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has claimed Chelsea could be forced to accept between £80-90million for Caicedo – a potential £35million hit on his fee from two years ago.

The Ecuador international, who is under contract until 2031, has been ever-present in the Premier League this season.

Wyness insisted Chelsea will have “big numbers to recoup” if they cannot raise revenues with Champions League qualification.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Caicedo has had two seasons now, his contract has run down slightly.

“They may not be able to get that full fee back, but they’ll want as much as possible.

“He is a talent and he could command a decent fee in Saudi – but that’s the only market for him.

“I think they could get somewhere between £80-90million in Saudi, if they’re lucky.

“It’ll depend on what Caicedo wants to do. Chelsea have got some big numbers they will have to recoup.

“He may not be the one they want to let go, but he may actually be one of the only players who could go and bring in a decent value.”

Major update on Maresca sack at Chelsea

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Monday (21 April) that Enzo Maresca has the backing of the Chelsea board despite unrest in the fanbase.

It is believed chairman Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital chiefs have recognised they cannot keep chopping and changing in the dugout.

Maresca left Leicester to join Chelsea last summer (2024) and signed a contract running until June 2029.
