‘Chelsea could take £100m hit’ after ‘amazing Clearlake failure’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Chelsea may have taken a “£100million” hit after failing to agree a front-of-shirt sponsorship.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed he is “amazed” that the Blues have not found a deal.
Chelsea are still without a front-of-shirt sponsor for this season after the expiry of their deal with Infinite Athlete last summer (2024).
Finance expert Stefan Borson has told Football Insider (26 January) that the Blues have a £50million hole in their accounts for this season after failing to agree a new deal.
The west London giants also started the 2023-24 campaign without a primary shirt sponsor before finding an agreement with Infinite Athlete.
As per Deloitte’s 2025 Money League. Chelsea’s overall revenue fell from £513million in 2022-23 to £469million last season.
On the pitch, Enzo Maresca’s side are fighting to return to the Champions League next season and currently sit fourth in the Premier League table.
Chelsea shirt sponsor negotiations are ‘amazing’, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It has amazed me that they’ve not been able to do a deal.
“I get the point that they are waiting for their valuation to come through, but that’s a lot of money which has now gone for the last two seasons.

“I don’t care how rich Clearlake are – it’s a lot of money. It could have been £100million.
“It’s surprising that they haven’t done it, but they’ve decided that’s the way they want to play it. Over to them, they are paying the bills.”
