Chelsea star Moises Caicedo reacts to Billy Gilmour’s message

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has reacted to a message shared by Napoli ace and Scotland international Billy Gilmour.

The 24-year-old rose through the academy ranks at Stamford Bridge and made 22 senior appearances for the West London side before joining Brighton in 2022.

Gilmour’s subsequent exploits for the Seagulls impressed Napoli, who added him to their ranks last summer.

The former Chelsea man’s move to Serie A proved to be a success, as he won the Italian top-flight title alongside fellow Scotland star Scott McTominay.

Chelsea star Caicedo reacts as Gilmour prepares for next season

Unlike Caicedo, who has been performing well for Chelsea in the Club World Cup, Gilmour has not played since June’s international period, when he helped Scotland beat Liechtenstein.

Meanwhile, the former Blues midfielder took to Instagram to share photos of himself keeping sharp in the off-season, alongside the caption: “Summer sessions.”

Caicedo liked Gilmour’s message and should start in the Club World Cup final against PSG on Sunday, 13 July.

Gilmour will want more game time at Napoli

Football Insider verdict

There is no doubt that Gilmour made the right decision by leaving Brighton in favour of Napoli last summer, as he won the sort of top-flight silverware that would not have been possible for him to obtain if he stayed with the South Coast club.

Gilmour endured a lack of game time last season

The former Norwich City man’s efforts helped Antonio Conte’s men win their second Scudetto in three seasons, while he played every minute of their title-deciding victory over Cagliari on 23 May.

However, unlike Scotland colleague McTominay, Gilmour did not perform a starring role for Napoli throughout last season, as he was handed just 13 appearances by Conte.

After winning the Serie A title and being more heavily involved towards the back end of the campaign, the 24-year-old will be content for now.

But if Gilmour is given a similarly low number of starting 11 opportunities in Italy next term, he could soon grow unhappy as the season wears on.
