Chelsea eye £20m move for Liverpool target a week after he signs new deal - report

Chelsea are weighing up a move for FC Koln left-back Jonas Hector, according to a report.

The Mirror report that Chelsea have made an enquiry for the German international despite him signing an improved contract last week which ties him to the Bundesliga club until 2021.

It is said that Liverpool were targeting Hector earlier this summer following his impressive displays for Germany at Euro 2016.

Blues manager Antonio Conte is keen to add another full-back to his squad with right-footed Cesar Azpilicueta the only senior left-back at his disposal.

Hector has five years remaining on his current deal in Germany but could be tempted by a move to the Premier League in this transfer window.

He made 34 appearances and provided two assists last season, guiding his side to a 9th placed finish in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool have been frantically searching for a new defender this summer with Alberto Moreno their only recognised player at left-back.

Former Liverpool star John Arne-Riise has called on manager Jurgen Klopp to sign a new left-back this summer.

The Merseyside club had been linked with Leicester youngster Ben Chilwell but he snubbed Anfield to sign a new contract with the Premier League champions.

Jurgen Klopp has also been linked with Jetro Willems, Jordy Gaspar and Lucas Digne to solve his defensive issue but has had no success.

In other Liverpool transfer news, Graeme Souness claims that the club’s new signing has a lot of responsibility.
