Chelsea consider shock move for PL goal machine - report
By Abigail Withey
Chelsea are considering a shock swoop Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy, according to a report.
The Mirror has revealed that the Premier League champions are interested in signing the 30-year-old in order to provide strength up front.
The newspaper claims on their website that Antonio Conte is hoping that Vardy will act as a replacement for last season’s goal-machine Diego Costa, whose future has been at the heart of the transfer window.
Costa was told by the Chelsea boss that he was surplus to requirements at the club earlier in the summer and has since refused to return to the club.
It’s understood that Vardy is seen as the perfect solution for Conte’s squad problems as he’s experienced and available for a lower fee considering his exceptional goal scoring talents.

Vardy was the driving force behind the Foxes’ miracle Premier League win back in the 2015/16 season when he scored 24 goals during his 36 appearances in the competition.
The England international managed 13 league goals last season as has already netted two strikes in as many matches for his club during the current campaign.
Football Insider verdict
Jamie Vardy is the perfect solution for Chelsea, and Antonio Conte must act fast in order to secure the former Premier League champion. Vardy would bring experience and a whole CV full of goals from the past few seasons and would act as a straight swap with former Chelsea mainstay Diego Costa. Despite being named as a cheaper option this does not mean the Blues hierarchy should offer an embarrassingly low sum for the goal-scorer. While Vardy would have a higher chance of winning the league again with a club like Chelsea, his loyalties to Leicester and a guaranteed regular starting spot in the squad could prevent him from moving. At Chelsea Vardy would undoubtably be used as a back up to huge signing Alvaro Morata, which could be seen as a bit of a deterrent.
