Chelsea fans all say the same thing as Bournemouth announce Djordje Petrovic signing

Chelsea have completed the sale of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic to fellow Premier League side Bournemouth as their summer shake-up continues.

Petrovic joined the Blues from MLS side New England Revolution in the summer of 2023 and initially impressed, keeping seven clean sheets in 31 games during his maiden campaign.

However, a congested goalkeeper group at Stamford Bridge saw Petrovic loaned to sister club Strasbourg last season, but once again, the Serbia international performed well, keeping 10 shutouts in 31 Ligue 1 outings and preventing 7.9 goals — only four goalkeepers managed more.

Now, Petrovic will get another crack at the Premier League at Bournemouth, who needed a new stopper after Kepa Arrizabalaga‘s loan ended and Mark Travers joined Everton.

Chelsea fans react to Djordje Petrovic sale

Despite his short time with the club, Petrovic proved hugely popular among Chelsea supporters, so much so that they’ve expressed a mixture of sadness that he’s living, and a willingness to wish him well at his new club.

Some Chelsea supporters even wanted Petrovic to stay and take over from Robert Sanchez as the club’s No.1, despite the Spaniard’s excellent recent showings at the Club World Cup.

And Bournemouth fans definitely seem happy about their club’s latest signing, who joins Adrien Truffert through the door at the Vitality Stadium.

Football Insider verdict

Petrovic now becomes Bournemouth’s joint-second-biggest transfer of all time, with only striker Evanilson (£40.2m) costing more.

These sums, coupled with the Cherries finishing ninth last season and coming close to European qualification, show they’re a club on the up under Andoni Iraola. Especially in the wake of news that the South Coast side wish to double the capacity of the Vitality Stadium.

Indeed, Petrovic himself has stated he’s here to ‘play at the best level’, seeing Bournemouth as the perfect place for him to achieve his goals.

“I’m really happy to be here,” he told the club’s website. “I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and I want to play at the best level.

“Together with this club, with these facilities, I think we can achieve it. I want to help the team get the results, improve every day and be a better player.”

Petrovic could make his debut in just a few days as Bournemouth host Championship outfit Bristol City in a friendly.
