Chelsea fans destroy Cole Palmer after what he did vs Man City, his full stats speak volumes

Chelsea fans slammed Cole Palmer for his performance against his former team Manchester City in Sunday’s 1-1 draw.

Enzo Maresca left Chelsea on Thursday, but the Blues came from a goal down at the Etihad Stadium to secure a notable draw following a stoppage-time equaliser.

His replacement for the game, Calum McFarlane, made sure that his side fought well, and they secured a point when Enzo Fernandez scored in the final seconds.

Liam Rosenior is the favourite for the Chelsea job, with the Englishman reportedly ready to leave Strasbourg in the coming days.

Maresca was often criticised for substituting Palmer off too early, but the midfielder did little to disprove his former manager’s actions on Sunday.

Chelsea fans fume with ‘washed’ Cole Palmer

Chelsea were competitive in the first half, and put up a strong fight against the Premier League title chasers.

Tijjani Reijnders’ goal before the break saw the Blues faced with a mountain to climb at the Etihad Stadium, but they continued to go again.

Pedro Neto enjoyed a brilliant chance after the break, and McFarlane’s side remained competitive, grabbing their equaliser when Fernandez bundled in.

One player who never really managed to get into the game, however, was Palmer. The winger was largely anonymous, marked out of the game or just not willing to get into it.

In the final minutes, the 23-year-old had a chance to level the scores before Fernandez did, but he missed the ball completely.

Chelsea fans were highly critical of Palmer’s performance, with one fan saying that he looked “miles off it”.

Another agreed with the assessment and even said that the England international was “looking like Ziyech out there.”

A fellow Chelsea fan said that “Palmer genuinely could be a one-season wonder all things considered.”

One X user said: “They said Maresca was holding Palmer back… he’s just washed man”.

The stats behind Palmer’s performance vs Manchester City

Palmer did have one strong moment in the second half, when he played a decent ball through to Liam Delap.

The striker could not convert the pass into a good chance, however, and there was little else to write home about for Chelsea’s star man.

Palmer failed to create a single chance, won just four of his 10 duels, committed two fouls and completed only three passes into the final third.

The way he attempted to side-foot his late chance, instead missing the ball and letting it slide past, said everything about his performance.

Anonymous would be an understatement for the midfielder, who will want to respond very quickly.
