Chelsea give green light to Tyrique George deal, agreement expected before January

Chelsea will give the green light to Tyrique George leaving in January, sources have told Football Insider.

George, 19, nearly joined Fulham on deadline day and has been the subject of strong interest from Champions League clubs as well as those in the Premier League.

Chelsea have already decided they will listen to offers for the winger heading into January and there is the likelihood a deal will be agreed in advance of the window.

The Blues academy graduate has yet to start a top-flight game for Enzo Maresca’s side so far this season.

Tyrique George is surplus to requirements at Chelsea

George is viewed predominantly as a winger and Chelsea have already have plentiful options in that position.

These include new hero Estevao Willian, who recently scored a late winner against Liverpool, as well as Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho.

Geovany Quenda is also moving from Sporting Lisbon next summer.

As he is a product of the academy, the sale of George will be regarded as pure profit in Chelsea’s financial reports, which will help their chances of staying within profit and sustainability rules.

George needs regular minutes in order to shine

At the age of 19, George still has a lot of time to realise his obvious potential, but staying at Chelsea would lessen his chances of a breakout season.

Under Maresca, the England Under-19 international has started just one Premier League game, often being restricted to appearances off the bench.

As well as Fulham, Crystal Palace were linked with George in the summer transfer window, hinting that there is a queue of teams waiting to snap up the youngster.

If he were to make the move to a mid-table Premier League team, then he would be given the platform to develop and make a real impact on the division.

Given Chelsea’s history of big spending, it is clear that the club would rather go out and sign a more complete winger than give George the chance to shine, so a departure may be necessary for the good of his career.
