Chelsea goalkeeper update as Mike Maignan set to visit Stamford Bridge
Chelsea’s current goalkeeping situation has received a new update as summer target Mike Maignan is set to visit Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are looking to do even better next season after their stunning back end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Enzo Maresca’s side were triumphant in the Conference League as well as powering their way past PSG to claim the Club World Cup title.
Now dubbed the best team in the world, the west London side has been active in the market, recruiting a whole host of fresh talent such as Jorrel Hato from Ajax.
Yet, one position that has troubled the Italian coach is in between the sticks with former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown telling Football Insider in February that signing a goalkeeper was Chelsea’s “top priority” this summer.
Senior transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed in June that Chelsea saw an option to sign Mike Maignan on a cut-price deal with one-year left on his contract, but a move didn’t prove possible.
Maresca sticks with Sanchez and Jorgensen ahead of AC Milan clash
After being chased this summer the French keeper is set to visit Chelsea in a pre-season friendly on 10 August with AC Milan.
Chelsea reporter for the Daily Mail Kieran Gill provided an update on the club’s pursuit of the goalkeeper on X (9 August), saying: “Mike Maignan visits Stamford Bridge with AC Milan tomorrow.
“Chelsea haven’t reignited talks that were held before Club World Cup and told they’re not searching for any new goalkeeper currently. Faith in Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen as 2025-26 approaches.”
Amid the interest in the shot-stopper, it appears the club are sticking to what they have and opting not to go for the highly rated 30-year-old.

Both the Spaniard and the Dane were susceptible to errors last year and must rectify their mistakes if they want to stay on the right side of Maresca.
The statement will provide the pair with confidence over their futures going forward, especially considering the keeper role was one of the weaker parts of the team.
Alternatively, the Blues may be keeping a low-profile to try and tempt the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge at the end of his contract next summer on a free.

To avoid this reality, both Sanchez and Jorgensen have to step up and perform when called upon across all competitions.
Silencing the doubters and restoring faith in their keeping abilities is paramount to ensuring the two are in Maresca’s long-term plans.
I am not totally convinced by either shot-stoppers but the Spaniard excelled during the Club World Cup and may have turned a corner towards the back end of last season.
