Chelsea hit by crushing Reece James setback – report

Chelsea will not have Reece James available anytime soon as the medical team are reportedly unwilling to rush him back to the pitch.

The club captain suffered a hamstring injury during pre-season, which has stopped him from appearing in the Premier League this season.

According to The Sun, Chelsea’s medical team are not fully satisfied with how his recovery is going at the moment.

The 24-year-old has missed 82 Premier League games for Chelsea throughout his career due to injuries, with his current issue being his sixth hamstring problem.

The right-back only started five league games throughout the 2023-24 campaign in what was an injury-plagued season.

The England international underwent surgery in December 2023, but he has continued to suffer problems since then.

Chelsea will have to continue on without Reece James

Enzo Maresca will have to continue without his captain for the forthcoming fixtures, as there is still no clear return date in sight.

Malo Gusto has become the first-choice right-back in James’ absence, but he was also on the sidelines last weekend due to injury.

That led to Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana covering that position as Maresca awaits his regular full-backs returning to fitness.

They will face West Ham United this Saturday (21 September).
