Chelsea insiders baffled by what Enzo Maresca has done as board whereabouts detailed
Enzo Maresca’s recent public outburst has completely confused those on the board at Chelsea with the likes of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali both not even in the country right now.
Maresca has led Chelsea to Conference League and Club World Cup glory in 2025, but their inconsistent form this season has seen doubts arise around his future as their manager.
The Blues are fourth in the Premier League as it stands and have lost ground on the teams above them after a recent run of three games without a win.
Maresca hinted at internal tension in his press conference after their win against Everton on Saturday, saying the previous two days had been “the hardest” since he had joined the club due to “so many” people not supporting him and the team.
Sources have exclusively told Football Insider that Chelsea’s board will not be happy with Maresca after he doubled down on his cryptic comments on Monday, and a new report has revealed more on their current feelings towards the Italian boss.

Chelsea higher-ups left ‘clueless’ as to why Maresca fumed in press conference
Chelsea beat Cardiff City 3-1 in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Tuesday to lift some of the pressure off of Maresca at this current moment in time.
The Daily Mail (17 December) have now reported, though, that the Blues’ chiefs are “baffled” by Maresca’s comments last week, with those inside the club “clueless” as to why he said what he said.
He even refused to back down after Tuesday’s cup win over Cardiff, as he insisted that he had not spoken to any of his bosses following the comments, but the Mail claim that he has, in fact, spoken with members of Chelsea’s sporting directorship team since the Everton victory.

The likes of Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart, Joe Shields and Sam Jewell have been doing their usual routines, which included a visit to the away changing room after full time against the Bluebirds.
It is, therefore, assumed that Maresca was referring to the club’s owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, but neither of those chiefs are currently in the country, while the latter is a regular at games and so will eventually speak with the manager in person.
Who could be the next Chelsea manager?
Maresca is clearly not happy with something behind the scenes at Chelsea right now, but what has not been made very clear is the person or feeling that he is actually annoyed with
He needs to be careful not to exacerbate the situation even further in the weeks to come, as he could well find himself out of a job pretty soon.

The bookmakers’ latest odds have ex-Barcelona boss Xavi as the favourite to be the next Chelsea manager, at 5/1, ahead of the boss of their local rivals Fulham, Marco Silva, who comes in at 6/1.
Liam Rosenior is doing a good job in charge of Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, so follows close behind at a price of 7/1.
A Premier League trio of Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner and Unai Emery are all next up at 8/1, while the bookies have priced Napoli boss Antonio Conte at 12/1 to make a surprise return to Stamford Bridge.
