‘Chelsea make major Benjamin Sesko decision as Arsenal chase striker’

Chelsea have made a significant decision over a potential move to sign Benjamin Sesko amid strong interest in the RB Leipzig striker from Arsenal.

The 22-year-old enjoyed another strong season with the Bundesliga side in 2024/25, meaning there is now plenty of interest in him as clubs chase that all important firepower in the summer transfer window.

In the lead up to the summer window, Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Sesko, with a new centre-forward a key piece of transfer business for the Gunners ahead of next season.

Now, it appears as though the path towards completing a deal for the Slovenia international has just become clearer for Mikel Arteta‘s side.

Liam Delap halts Chelsea interest in Benjamin Sesko

Chelsea have already signed one striker this summer with Liam Delap arriving on a long-term deal from Ipswich Town.

That now appears to have tipped the decision makers at Stamford Bridge into a decision over a potential move for Sesko.

According to an update from The Athletic, the Blues have admired the Leipzig striker for the last three years, but have now taken him off their list of targets.

That is apparently due to the fact that Delap and Sesko are deemed similar in terms of their attributes, and so Chelsea feel they no longer need to sign the latter.

In contrast, it is stated that over in North London, the Gunners are still closely tracking both the Slovenian, and Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres.

Earlier this week, Football Insider reported that Arsenal are favouring a move for Sesko over Gyokeres in their search for a new striker this summer.

Football Insider Verdict

It is hard to imagine that anyone connected with the Gunners will not welcome this news that Chelsea are no longer in the race for Sesko.

There have long since been suggestions that if Arsenal sign a striker they will end their wait for a trophy next season.

With Chelsea no longer pursuing a deal to sign Sesko, that is one less rival for Arteta’s side to overcome as they look to sign their main target.

Indeed, the Stamford Bridge club have shown in recent years that they will spend big money in the market in order to sign the players they want.

As a result, their exit from this transfer race should make the Slovenia international a more attainable and affordable target for Arsenal.

Considering how important a new striker will be to their cause next season, that is something Arteta will no doubt be keen to take advantage of as soon as possible.
