Chelsea have made a new bid for Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman, Football Insider sources understand.

The Premier League champions had an opening offer of £8million rejected for the Ghana international earlier this week.

But Chelsea have returned to the negotiating table with an improved bid for Rahman of around £11million and are increasingly hopefully it will be accepted.

Jose Mourinho has identified the 21-year-old as the player he wants to replace Atletico Madrid-bound Filipe Luis and provide back-up for his team’s established left-back Cedar Azpilicueta.

The Premier League club have turned their attention to Rahman after agreeing a deal for Filipe Luis to join Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.
