Chelsea may have already agreed two summer deals – top source

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Chelsea may have already agreed summer sales as financial questions linger at the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed fans will see outgoings happen “fairly quickly” once the transfer window opens next month.

Chelsea are gearing up for the summer window and are widely expected to sell first-team players before 30 June to prevent a breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2023-24 campaign.

Wyness told Football Insider in March that Blues owner and chairman Todd Boehly has already set up a “fire sale” of talent in Saudi Arabia.

He highlighted the link between Chelsea and their former sporting director Michael Emenalo, who now holds a senior role in the Saudi Pro League set-up.

Any deals will come behind a new manager’s back following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure earlier this week.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think there will definitely be sales this summer.

“I mentioned before that Chelsea chiefs have been down to Saudi, I think a couple of deals may have already been done.

“Thiago Silva has announced he’s going, that will be wages off the books.

“But a big reason I thought Pochettino would stay on is that he’d have had the chance to evaluate his squad.

“He’s worked with the players, and he knows who he wants to keep – and he would’ve had the chance to build the squad in his own image.

“But yes, I do think there will be movement this summer – and fairly quickly as well.”
