Chelsea may have ‘hit the jackpot’ with Raheem Sterling amid confirmed £128m news – pundit
Kevin Campbell has claimed Chelsea will have “hit the jackpot” if Raheem Sterling can score 20 league goals in the 2022-23 season.
The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 27-year-old could step up and be the talisman at Stamford Bridge in the wake of Romelu Lukaku’s failure and subsequent exit.
Chelsea confirmed last week (13 July) that Sterling has penned a five-year deal at the club after leaving Man City.
According to The Guardian (9 July), the total value of the Blues’ swoop for the winger is £128million – when both transfer fee and salary are taken into consideration.
The last Chelsea player to score 20 league goals was Diego Costa in the 2016/17 season – with Didier Drogba also matching the feat.
When asked if Sterling could match that figure for Chelsea this season, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Of course he could.
“Raheem Sterling is an excellent player. There’s a little bit of change going on at Chelsea, and they need to try and share that attacking load more.
“They planned to rely on Lukaku, that didn’t work out and Havertz had to go up front. Timo Werner is another player who hasn’t done it just yet.
“They’re going to try and get 15-20 goals out of Sterling – and if they can get that, then I think Chelsea have hit the jackpot.
“He is capable of scoring that figure, and that’s something they’ve not had for a long while.”

Sterling netted 20 league strikes for Man City in the 2019-20 season and managed 15 goals in the two campaigns before that.
He has also notched 19 goals in 77 caps for England.
