Chelsea star Moises Caicedo reacts to emotional Kylian Mbappe message
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe enjoyed varying levels of success in this summer’s Club World Cup.
Caicedo was an influential figure in a Chelsea side that impressively beat PSG 3-0 in the final on Sunday, 13 July.
Meanwhile, Mbappe and Madrid suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the France star’s former club in their semi-final on 9 July.
But Mbappe enjoyed a relatively successful individual tournament, scoring one goal in three appearances after returning from illness.

Chelsea star Caicedo reacts as Mbappe sends emotional Lucas Vazquez message
Real Madrid’s new boss, Xabi Alonso, will look to guide the Spanish capital giants to the La Liga title in his first season in the dugout.
However, the 43-year-old’s job has arguably been made more difficult by the fact that long-serving Madrid ace Lucas Vazquez has departed.
Responding to Vazquez’s exit via Instagram [17 July], Mbappe wrote: “My friend,
It was a pleasure sharing the locker room with you this season.
“He has always been great to me from day one to last. A legend on and off the pitch of the best club in the world, I wish you all the best for the future.
“Thank you very much for everything, Lucas Vazquez.”
Caicedo can help Enzo Maresca win more silverware
Football Insider verdict
After joining Chelsea from Brighton for an eye-watering fee of £115million [Sky Sports] in 2023, Caicedo was arguably a disappointing addition for the Stamford Bridge club in his first season with the West Londoners.
However, the 23-year-old has excelled since Enzo Maresca took up the dugout duties at Stamford Bridge, and helped the Blues qualify for the Champions League via their fourth-place finish in the Premier League last term.
The 23-year-old also played a vital role in Chelsea’s Conference League success, scoring the last goal in their 4-1 triumph over Real Betis in the final.
Caicedo performed admirably well in the Club World Cup final, winning the midfield battle against the likes of Joao Neves, who rightfully received many plaudits in PSG’s historic Champions League run.
If the Ecuador international continues his rich vein of form, he can help Chelsea win more silverware next season, and the West Londoners could even have their sights on Premier League glory.
