Chelsea news: New ‘Mason Mount’ tipped for ‘breakthrough’ next season after major development – pundit
Conor Gallagher could emulate Chelsea star Mason Mount and make his “breakthrough” next season, according to Kevin Phillips.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old has done “brilliantly” on loan at Crystal Palace.
According to the Telegraph (10 March), Chelsea are effectively under a transfer embargo after they were slapped with a ban on “inter-club payments” due to government sanctions imposed on owner Roman Abramovich.

Mason Mount, who has netted 25 goals in 145 Chelsea appearances, made his Blues breakthrough as a 20-year-old due to a transfer ban in 2019.
Phillips insisted Gallagher has been presented with an “opportunity” to emulate the 26-cap England star.
He claimed Chelsea fans will “want to see him in a blue shirt” after watching his Selhurst Park exploits.
“He could make that breakthrough now,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s shown at Palace what a great player he is. He’s gone there and done brilliantly; he’s earned a lot of rave reviews.
“He’s technically very good, can come up with a goal at any time – if I’m a Chelsea fan watching what he’s doing across London, I’d want to see him in a blue shirt.
“That chance could obviously come earlier than expected now, and it’s an opportunity for him to step up – just like Mason Mount did under that previous transfer ban.”

Gallagher has notched eight goals and three assists in 24 Premier League appearances this term.
His Chelsea contract expires in 2025.
