Chelsea news: Rivals hold key to points deduction calamity – sources

Chelsea could land sanctions for breaching financial rules if rival clubs do not entertain full-priced deals for their players this summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that clubs could make low-ball offers to Chelsea for their players, knowing they are desperate to sell before 30 June.

The Blues’ ownership are reluctant to let players leave for cheap fees below their value despite the desperation to balance the books at Stamford Bridge.

Having seen Everton and Nottingham Forest handed points deductions by the Premier League for breaches of financial rules, Chelsea are desperate to avoid the same fate.

Rivals hold key to Chelsea financial issues in transfer twist

Clubs interested in Chelsea’s stars will be keen on exploring cut-priced deals for the available players, making the coming month a crucial period for their financial situation.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are expected to explore alternative options for raising money, including selling the club’s assets to a sister company.

Football Insider reported that they are willing to sell real estate assets in an attempt to balance the books after finding a loophole as they sold two hotels outside Stamford Bridge for approximately £77million.

Football Insider also revealed that four first-team stars are up for sale already, with Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja all available for transfer.

Mauricio Pochettino saw Gallagher and Chalobah as key players, but following his dismissal, and with Chelsea’s financial issues, they will now listen to offers for the homegrown stars.

Maatsen and Broja have spent the second half of the season out on loan at Dortmund and Fulham respectively, with the former expected to remain at his loan club.

The sales of four academy graduates are seen as the quickest route to raising funds, with the income going down as pure profit on the club’s balance sheets.

In other news, Man United could be thrown out of the Europa League.
