Chelsea news: Trevoh Chalobah could submit constructive dismissal claim – Borson
Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah could potentially submit a claim for constructive dismissal after he’s been banned from the club’s first-team facilities.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it appears the west London club are making it “very hard” for Chalobah to perform his trade as per his contract.
The Telegraph reported on 10 August the 25-year-old has joined Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja in being barred from Chelsea’s first-team training and facilities.
It is claimed a similar treatment has also been applied to Conor Gallagher, who is still waiting for his Atletico Madrid transfer to go through.
Football Insider revealed on 14 August Chelsea will accept bids of between £20-25million for Chalobah following interest from Aston Villa, Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Chelsea could be breaching contracts after Cobham bans
Borson revealed clubs can’t ban players from certain areas of the workplace and effectively guarantee they are unable to play football to the standard they are employed to reach.
“The PFA have quite frequently got involved in cases like this before,” Borson told Football Insider.
“On the face of it, there certainly looks to be potential for a claim for constructive dismissal.
“They are certainly making it very hard for him to perform his trade as per his contract if it’s true.
“Clearly, nobody wants to go down that route and the last thing a player wants is to end up effectively not turning up to work and trying to claim that Chelsea have breached their contract.

“If that goes wrong down the line, whoever signs Chalobah could be liable for paying some quite considerable compensation or Chalobah himself could be liable for paying compensation back to Chelsea, especially if you say his value is £20-25million.
“It’s quite a risky situation, but on the face of it, you can’t start effectively disenfranchising certain players by banning them from certain areas of their workplace and guaranteeing that they can’t play football to the standard to which they are employed.”
