Chelsea next manager: Mauricio Pochettino sack update emerges – sources
Mauricio Pochettino is on trial at Chelsea until the end of the season to prove he is the right man to get the club moving in the right direction again.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Pochettino has no plans to leave the Blues and it will be the club that makes a decision on his future.
It’s been a disappointing first season at Stamford Bridge for the Argentinian, with his side currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table.
O’Rourke suggested the Chelsea owners will be doing their due diligence on potential replacements for the 52-year-old as they are unlikely to be happy with how the season has gone so far.
But Todd Boely could have a difficult job on his hands finding someone to take the reins as any potential targets could be snapped up by other top clubs on the lookout for a new manager.
Mauricio Pochettino must prove himself to avoid Chelsea sack
There is no doubt the Chelsea chiefs would have been expecting to be much higher up the league this season as their side currently sit 19 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
The Blues put in a decent performance against Villa on 28 April, where Axel Disasi’s injury-time goal was ruled out following a VAR check in the 2-2 draw.
There have been plenty of occasions where they should have come away from games with more than they got, but there have also been a number of abject displays, the most recent of which came in the 5-0 defeat against Arsenal on 23 April.

Those are the matches that are likely going to decide Pochettino’s future and he could be facing an uphill battle to keep his job if the club can source a replacement.
It’s going to be a big few weeks for the Argentine as he aims to prove to the board that he deserves another crack at getting the Blues back on track next season.
