Chelsea now frontrunners in Leroy Sane race after new twist – sources

Chelsea and Arsenal are the frontrunners in the free transfer race for Leroy Sane, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Bayern next month and had looked set to pen an extension – but has switched agents and could now quit in the coming weeks.

Sane has rejected multiple offers from the Bundesliga champions, putting Chelsea and Arsenal on red alert ahead of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are intensifying their interest in the winger following a new twist in the future of Jadon Sancho, with widespread reports suggesting they are ready to pay a penalty to see him return to Man United.

Sancho has failed to make a starting place his own at Stamford Bridge and the Blues could turn to Premier League proven star Sane this summer.

It is believed the Germany international will also field interest from other overseas clubs but the most lucrative financial packages in European football will come from the Premier League.
