Chelsea plan to accept £30m Ian Maatsen offer – sources

Chelsea will be looking to bring in £30million for the sale of Ian Maatsen, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old is currently thriving on loan at Borussia Dortmund, having joined the German club in January until the end of the season.

The left-back struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge after being priced out of a permanent move to Burnley last summer, where he had been playing on loan.

Chelsea now have an obvious “big money” transfer in Maatsen as the West London club look to boost their coffers in the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Maatsen is currently on his fourth loan spell away from Stamford Bridge, having also temporarily lined out for Charlton Athletic and Coventry.

He has now featured 18 times for Borussia Dortmund, with the left-back registering two goals and two assists.

Impressing at both ends of the pitch in the Bundesliga, the full-back has also helped guide Dortmund into the semi-finals of this season’s Champions League.

Maatsen committed his long-term future to the Blues prior to his German switch, signing a contract extension until 2026.

The 22-year-old has 16 senior Chelsea appearances to his name, having come through the club’s youth academy.

But he could be sold this summer, with finance expert Kieran Maguire telling Football Insider earlier this month that the Blues board must lower their “bloated” wage bill to help solve the club’s financial “mess”.
