‘Chelsea plan to accept Djordje Petrovic offer after Bournemouth latest’

Chelsea are prepared to accept offers for Djordje Petrovic this summer amid growing interest from a number of Premier League sides.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Enzo Maresca has no space in his squad for the 25-year-old.

Reports have claimed Bournemouth are now advancing in talks with Chelsea over his signing and have made a bid, while Sunderland remain keen on a deal.

Football Insider revealed on 9 July that Bournemouth are pushing to sign Petrovic as they missed out out on signing Kepa Arrizabalaga when he joined Arsenal.

The Chelsea shot-stopper spent last season on loan at BlueCo-owned Strasbourg, and is now keen to depart Stamford Bridge permanently in search of regular football.

Maresca’s side, meanwhile, are keen to shift at least one of their current goalkeeper options as they eye a deal to sign Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

Chelsea plan to accept offer for Djordje Petrovic

Brown told Football Insider in February that Chelsea plan to sign a new goalkeeper as Maresca is keen to upgrade on his current options.

As a result, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Petrovic will likely be a casualty of their new squad ambitions.

Chelsea are looking to move somebody on,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve got four goalkeepers, all of which want to play regular football, and then they’re talking about bringing in Emiliano Martinez as well.

“From what I hear, Petrovic is the most likely one to move on this summer.

“The manager doesn’t see him as part of his first-team plans.

“He spent last season out on loan, had that taste of regular football, and now he wants to move on.

“There’s plenty of interest in him from Premier League clubs, and Sunderland have been having a look at him, so we’ll see where he goes.

“He wants to leave Chelsea and Chelsea are happy to let him go, so it will happen before long.”

Man United make Alejandro Garnacho exit decision

On top of the potential signing of a new goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are continuing to keep tabs on Alejandro Garnacho’s situation at Man United.

Brown told Football Insider on 10 July that Man United will slash Garnacho’s asking price after struggling to drum up interest in him at their initial demand.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider in May that Amorim is forcing Garnacho out of Man United following a public bust-up over his playing time last season.

However, that has put the club in a weak negotiating position and will force them to accept offers below the winger’s original market value.
