Chelsea playing with fire as Cole Palmer injury update emerges, it’s going to backfire
Enzo Maresca could regret the decisions being made about Cole Palmer as the Chelsea star attempts to return to full fitness.
Palmer has been sidelined since the Man United clash back in September, suffering a recurrence of his groin injury as the Blues faced an unexpected defeat at Old Trafford.
With 15 goals and 11 assists last season, the 23-year-old is by far Maresca‘s most important player, so supporters were ecstatic when Palmer hinted at an early Chelsea return.
However, the manager has now confirmed that the attacking star broke his toe in an at-home accident, one which has ruled him out of upcoming games against Burnley, Barcelona, and Arsenal.
Chelsea want to rush Cole Palmer back to full fitness
Chelsea are already without Romeo Lavia, Levi Colwill, and Dario Essugo, and there is no telling where the Blues might be in the Premier League table had Palmer been fit over the last few weeks.
The team’s desperation to get the former Man City man back firing has been made abundantly clear, especially after the latest update from the Cobham Training Centre.
According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law (21 November), those behind the scenes have designed a special football boot to help the player return from his freak injury as soon as possible.
It is understood that the boot will provide more cushioning around the injured area, which might help Palmer return to the grass next week and that he might even be able to play in it.
Enzo Maresca could be taking an unnecessary risk
Premier League stars are already given very little time to rest and heal, so with staff behind the scenes trying to find ways to get Palmer back on the pitch already, it feels very forced.
Other managers have found out exactly what happens when you rush a player back to the pitch too quickly, and the same could emerge at Stamford Bridge if they decide to take that risk.
It would be a very foolish decision, especially given how well the Blues have played without their captain, and should he pick up another injury, they might be without him for even longer.
Some supporters have expressed their concerns over this, and while Maresca has not said anything about getting their star player back on the pitch, it seems as though it is all being rushed after the international break.
